Where is the leadership? This is an insult used in the military when things were going wrong because of a genuine lack of leadership by our superiors or to be honest when I had difficulty leading when I was in charge of a task.
It is a way of getting those in charge of the task to refocus on what is needed to be done and that was to complete the mission at hand whether it was to clean toilets or defeat the enemy. Sometimes I would get stuck, unable to make a decision. It is in that moment, I would decide on what needed to be done and set a course. If I was right then great but if I was wrong, then I would step back admit the mistake and set a new course until the mission was accomplished.
Honestly, that is what this country is currently experiencing. There is no one in either party that wants to lead. Is there not one man or woman that wants to say up front that this is the direction the country needs to go and move us in that direction. Let’s look at our current situation. During the campaign neither candidate had a clear vision that people were attracted to in mass. It was like nobody really wanted the job. In the last eight years as an example who can blame them. President Obama won for one simple reason, the other candidate didn’t have a message that was any different from his just package the not as big government as his will be. Since he has been in office he has used the office of the president as a way to sneak his policies into place. He is using this countries financial crisis as a way to keep these policies out of the lime light and tries to keep the country focused on those he says are the culprits. In this way we have seen doctors forced to provide abortions even though it is against their beliefs to commit no harm. He has authorized the use of federal funds to provide abortions and he is growing government in a way never seen before. He believes that it is his divine right to rule and to ignore the constitution if it gets in his way. He has no clear view of right and wrong and that will kill this country. I did not vote for him because of his character, not his skin color. He is amoral and cares only for himself. How do I know this? He made his wife and kids leave the stage when he gave his victory speech. At a time of crisis he spent more on his inauguration than any president before him.
The last leader that this country had was Ronald Reagan. He had a clear message and was willing to stick to it. To a lot it was the right thing to do and to the others it dismantled everything they had worked for. Reagan cut taxes, then cut the size of government and kept the government from expanding during his eight years as president. He used the constitution as his guide and did not listen to those who thought that the constitution was a living breathing document instead of a set of principles that were to be followed. He used the bully pulpit to reach out to the nation and made it okay to be an American and not an African-American, Irish-American or any other ethic group you can think of. He saw the people of this country united in purpose instead of stabbing each other in the back and brought back the motto of “America can accomplish anything it puts its mind to.” In the eighties Reagan identified the evils of this world and then set out to see to there destruction. If there were any doubts as to how this country felt about his leadership all one has to do is look at how the nation responded at his death.
An example of poor leadership is Bill Clinton. It was all about President Bill and he was able to cover that in a message that the people responded to. Once in office he used it to his advantage and went where the polls lead him. There was never a clear message and because of that the people were duped into bigger government and giving up their money in taxes. The courts were stacked with judges who preferred to make law instead of interpret it. In the end we were left with a bad situation. There were some things that Bill took credit for things he had nothing to do with and even fought against these needed changes. The first is welfare reform. It was a conservative congress that brought about those change and that same congress brought the federal budget into balance. Only when President Bill saw the political winds blowing in favor of these changes did he take complete responsibility for these changes, going so far as to say they were his policies along.
Somewhere out in this nation is a true leader. I don’t where he or she are but I sure hope they show up soon.
